Imaginative refurbishment allows consumers to show off their personal style

The general sales trend for sanitaryware for cloakrooms and ensuites has steadily increased over the last three years.  The on-going challenging economic climate means that an increasing number of households are choosing to refurbish their existing properties rather then relocate, investing in improvements such as extensions, additional bathrooms/ensuites or adding an extra WC as well as simply redecorating and updating bathrooms, cloakrooms and kitchens.

We are also seeing more imaginative refurbishment in the cloakroom with consumers choosing stylish basins and WC’s rather than low-end basic models. This may well be because it is the one room in the house most often seen by visitors, providing the homeowner with the opportunity to show off his or her own personal style. Space saving product remains a key criteria as does the need for storage which means that compact base basin units are very popular as well as pedestal basins with a shorter projection.

We do not expect any major new trends for cloakrooms and ensuites in the short term except for a gradual increase in the focus on water saving products. Shallower therefore smaller capacity basins and WC’s with shorter projections and reduced water consumption will prevail as consumers become more aware of environmental issues and understand that good design is sensitive to these issues and needn’t cost the earth …both literally and financially!
