Allied Kingswood - The age of the distributor
Published:  11 January, 2012

“Never has the role of the distributor been more important to the independent kitchen retailer,” says Stephen Joseph of Allied Kingswood.

“2012 is shaping up to be a challenging year for everyone in the kitchen business,” he continues, “and we at Allied Kingswood, as a distributor who specialises in supplying the independent sector, will be the ‘business partner’ who helps them to prosper during tough market conditions.”

Allied Kingswood offers arguably one of the most diverse portfolios of kitchen products in the marketplace. It is the leading distributor of Crown Imperial kitchens, the best-selling brand of fitted kitchen furniture in independent showrooms.

For consumers on a lower budget, the LifeStyle range from Crown offers a quality kitchen with good margins at superstore-like retail price points.

Allied Kingswood’s appliance offer includes best-sellers such as Neff, Bosch, Liebherr, Whirlpool, Fisher & Paykel, Falcon and Rangemaster, in addition to the innovative Luce by Hotpoint range, which is exclusive to the independent sector via the Crown distribution network.

Sinks and taps from Carron Phoenix, Astracast and Perrin & Rowe, plus worksurfaces by Encore, Omega, Odyssey and Prima complete the product offer from Allied Kingswood.

“Success in today’s market is all about great service, choice and quick deliveries,” says Mr Joseph. “Our retailers provide great service, and we allow them to offer their customers a fantastic choice of kitchen products, along with a one-drop, complete order delivery service. And in January, we will be taking part in a promotion designed to underline what great value our retailers provide.”

Point-of-sale material to promote complete kitchens starting from £1399, including VAT, is being rolled out in January. The £1399 complete kitchen offer uses furniture from the Crown LifeStyle range, and also includes a single oven, hob, cooker hood, sink, tap and worksurface.

“The idea of the promotion is to show the casual shopper on a tight budget that they too can afford to buy from their local independent kitchen retailer,” explains Mr Joseph.

“It is a genuine offer of a complete kitchen for under £1400,” he continues, “and we all know that there are many consumers who only have a limited budget.

“However, the other purpose of this promotion is to say to consumers: ‘Look, you really can afford to shop here, so come in and look at our kitchens’. Once the consumer sees what else is available to them – and the promotional material includes details of how the kitchen and appliances specifications can be upgraded – I am confident that many will find a little more money in their budget, because it will be obvious what the extra money will give them.

“Too many consumers think that they simply cannot afford to buy a kitchen from an independent retailer, so they don’t even bother to call in and see what they have to offer. This promotion will help the retailer to get over that problem.

“It gives the retailer a chance to win extra business from customers who may have previously gone right past their showroom without stopping – on their way to a superstore, where they will in fact spend a lot more than £1400 on a new kitchen.

“And it gives the consumer the chance to get much better service and greater value for money from an independent showroom than the average superstore can offer them.”
