Co-ordinating tiles to match new colours and styles

Ceramic tiles are being used more in kitchen designs where they co-ordinate with the new colours and styles for worktops and fronts and with the growing requirements for products to be sustainable that ensures ceramic wall and floor tiles tick all the boxes. Although tiles have been used in kitchens for decades many designers have felt that the choice of designs has in the past been limited and square.

Ceramic tiles today are far from square with new rectangular sizes and metric co-ordination of shapes providing designers with the opportunity to create distinctive layouts for their clients.

Tile decorating technology has developed rapidly and now it is perhaps the most exciting period for tile design development. The traditional method of silk screen decorating is gradually being replaced with digital systems and for volume producers, the inkjet system. Tile manufacturers can now authentically replicate natural stones, marbles and other textures whilst being sustainable making ceramic tiles at the forefront in this area suiting kitchens, bathrooms and living areas.

It is the product sustainability that designers and clients are seeking and an area which tiles fully satisfy. The ability to incorporate fired ceramic waste into the new tiles and their whole life aspect far exceeding 25 years coupled with the new designs makes tiles worthy of a second look. Even the new technologies have enabled manufacturers to reduce their environmental impact – using less energy, cutting the quantities of water required and reducing the number of glaze colours used.
