Since time immemorial the mirror has been associated with mystery and magic, from Alice to Snow White and today, this object of desire is now an essential item on the shopping list for a new or updated bathroom. Modern safety glass and damp resistant silvering have improved product quality, but not being immediately apparent, these advances will need to be sold to the customer.
Advances in high quality, low voltage lighting, either over or backlit through the mirror, make shaving or applying makeup easier and more pleasant. The addition of shaver sockets, demisting pads and hands free light operation have even brought mirrors into the hi-tech age.
The mirror can also serve a dual purpose as part of the bathroom cabinet. Here it is worthwhile to consider mirrors backed with a safety film which is designed to keep the glass safely in place, even if it is broken. Whether the cabinet is just for keeping a bathroom tidy, or to keep items out of reach of small hands, it really is an important and integral part of the bathroom. In the past, bathroom cabinets have suffered over time from being in damp conditions and a useful step forward has been the introduction of stainless steel as the material of choice, retaining its good looks when other materials may become careworn.
