VitrA says furniture is part of the bathroom design
Published:  14 October, 2011

World leading designers of bathroom products VitrA says that bathroom furniture should be selected in the context of the whole bathroom design to suit and compliment the ceramic elements – particularly units under and around the basins. While the aesthetic aspect of furniture; colour, pattern, shape is important, so too is the functional aspect of the design.

Storage must be at the forefront of bathroom furniture design as well as the motion in use – soft close hinges, maximum extension of drawers, adjustable shelving and so forth.

VitrA’s various bathroom collections have furniture specifically designed for them and their amazingly successful Shift collection exemplifies this. Shift was designed by the renowned international NOA Design Group to offer the most adaptable range of choice by creating a system of modular options that allows the bathroom designer or home owner to specify dimensions, modules, finishes, assemblies and configurations. So Shift actually boasts 160 different furniture units in the collection, available in a choice of four finishes – pure white, Zebarano, Mountain Larch (textured surface) and Anthracite Grey.

The VitrA T4 collection launched at the international ISH exhibition in Frankfurt earlier this year has also introduced some superb new furniture designs and finishes. This includes a clever concealed shelf unit for a mono-block free standing bath.

The furniture is either wall-mounted or floor standing and can be symmetrical or asymmetrical depending on the positioning of top mounted basins. Wall mounted mirrored cabinets form part of all VitrA collections and, in the main, doors are equipped with flush pulls rather than protruding handles and knobs.

Full height wall units compliment the under-basin units by being mounted at the same base levels and emulating the soft contours on the edges.

VitrA’s Darren Paxford says that every modern bathroom needs carefully designed furniture to store away all consumable products, beauty utensils and items like towels so that the bathroom remains clutter-free and a room for relaxation and serenity. “It is important that furniture is alongside all the main bathroom components when it comes to choice. It must compliment the beauty of the ceramic elements and installing it as an afterthought will lead to a very disappointing result.”

This is why when VitrA commission some of the world’s top designers when commissioning new bathroom products, furniture is an important part of the brief.
