Combining luxury with practicality
Published:  26 September, 2011

Sandra Hyde, Marketing Manager at Aqualux, takes a look at how shower enclosures have evolved in line with the increasing demands of the modern consumer. Shower enclosures have grown increasingly sophisticated over the years and many products on the market are designed to create a feeling of luxury and tranquillity.

Previously, this kind of bathroom retreat would have been found only in boutique hotels and spas, whereas now the modern consumer aspires to create this space within their own homes. However, with many consumers leading busy, hectic lifestyles, the desire for a sleek, stylish and indulgent showering experience to enjoy on those occasions when time is less frenetic is coupled with the need for a facility that is both practical and functional for everyday bathing requirements. This is one of the reasons why walk-in showers have become so popular, and modern designs offer the luxury demanded by consumers with the option of speed, when needed.

The importance of time saving in relation to modern shower enclosures can also extend to ‘easy clean’ glass options, whereby a special coating is applied to the glass which makes it resistant to dirt and limescale, ensuring a quick wipe is all that is required to leave a shiny, sparkling finish.

The recent trend towards showers with minimal framing and expansive glass areas for more of a ‘wet room’ look continues and some enclosures offer the option of a wet room conversion kit.

As lifestyles change, designers continue to create products that meet the needs of the consumer whilst aesthetically enhancing their living space, with successful products managing to cater for all practical requirements with a design that feels like sheer, bathing indulgence.
