One of the biggest challenges for the bathroom furniture industry is to design good-looking furniture suitable for the bijou British bathroom. As bathrooms continue to shrink, the onus is on manufacturers to come up with ever-more ingenious solutions to the perennial problem of providing enough storage.
At Shades we take this challenge very seriously, and our portfolio reflects this. It includes fitted and modular furniture and is designed to make the most of every last inch of space using a host of clever storage solutions.
Bathroom storage has become a hot topic over recent years. It all starts with the media’s campaign to hail minimalist design as essential for modern life. In reality this is difficult to maintain without somewhere to stow toiletries. Without storage, one has to live surrounded by clutter, which is anathema to minimal design. Modular bathroom furniture is the obvious solution, as it provides space to keep everything out of sight, to maintain that all-important streamlined, clean look.
In design terms modular pieces are the current must-haves. Wall-hung, modular furniture appears to levitate above the floor as if by magic. And by freeing up the floor the eye moves uninterrupted across the space, making the room appear significantly larger than it actually is. It’s an optical illusion which never fails to work.
