It was Sir Francis Bacon, author, courtier and philosopher, who told us ‘knowledge is power’ way back in 1597. And 414 years later it is as important as ever - particularly in bathroom retailing. With the economy still languishing and the high street in a mess it is the retailers who really know their products who are the ones best able to survive.
Staff training is back on the agenda and recent feedback from members of the Bathroom Manufacturers Association suggests that companies in the bathroom supply chain are beginning to invest once more in bringing their staff bang up-to-date with the latest product information and trends.
Some manufacturers are able to provide specialist regular training courses for their customers, either on a one-to-one basis through their sales people or in training days held at their factories. Others take the opportunity to bring their customers fully up to speed at product launch events.
On-line and web-based training is also a recognised and increasingly important option since it is quick, convenient and inexpensive. Students don’t have the hassle of travel to the training venue and they can proceed with their learning at their own pace, when it suits them.
The Bathroom Academy, created by the BMA’s members, saw a recent massive and expensive upgrade with an all-new website, updated and downloadable Industry Guides, and new test questions. The Academy is available to all online at
Good customer service depends on knowledgeable people. And as we now know ‘knowledge is power.’
