Ellis Furniture is donating £30,000 during the next three years to continue its funding of work carried out by Cancer Research UK Leeds Centre, taking the total amount pledged over the years by generations of the Ellis family to more than £100,000. Supporting important charitable work is something the family started many years ago and remains close to their hearts.
The latest donation is being used to fund PhD student Anastasia Filia’s research of melanoma, bowel and testicular cancers in order to identify new ways to diagnose and treat the disease. Her specific objective is to analyse melanoma tumours and develop a new technique to extract DNA for genetic testing.
In recognition of what the cancer charity is calling ‘an exceptional achievement’, members of the Ellis family including current directors Tom and Richard Ellis will attend a Cancer Research UK event later this year where the donations will be publicly acknowledged.
