The green agenda and the race for zero carbon homes
Published:  12 July, 2011

When, in 2007, the government fired the starting gun in the race for zero carbon homes the bathroom industry responded well. It shot out of the starting blocks and the activity now taking place in creating water and energy efficiency in the bathroom is quite staggering, and expanding.

The Government's enthusiasm for a low carbon and eco-friendly economy is unabated and it has ambitions to be the greenest government ever with more measures to improve the water and energy of housing in the pipeline.

“Members of the BMA are doing their bit too,” comments Yvonne Orgill CEO. “Bathroom manufacturers know that they can make a big difference.  They know that proven sustainable design coupled with excellent styling will encourage consumers to install the very latest eco-friendly bathrooms.  These will have an impact on individual household bills and, of course, on the carbon footprint of the nation.”

To reflect the increasing consumer demand the BMA recently ‘soft-launched’ a new eco-zone, part of its main website.  www.bathroom-association.org/eco-zone/default.asp The zone already contains stacks of information to help would-be bathroom buyers and plans are in hand to develop the zone further in coming months.

Additionally this year’s Annual Bathroom Conference, which is open it anyone in the industry and takes place in Oxfordshire on 9th November, will be dedicated to discussing how all in the bathrooms supply chain can contribute to, and profit from, the green agenda.
