Straight-lined, angular designs are still strong in high-end bathrooms as they provide a clean and minimal look, but increasingly popular are softer, more rounded styles with a lightness of touch that evoke comfort and calm. Either way, a simple, no frills design approach ensures a luxurious look that will not date.
Colour is still predominantly white, although some splashes of black have crept into popularity. A monochrome scheme is unlikely to date as it meets the needs of many bathroom lifestyles from stylish Art Deco family homes through to sophisticated contemporary bachelor pads and everything in between.
For baths, colour is now often introduced through lighting where it elevates the act of a relaxing soak to an all-encompassing wellbeing experience. LEDs are small allowing them to be incorporated into products in ingenious ways and, because they do not get too hot, they can be switched on to create a warm ambiance in the bathroom even when the bath is not in use.
A universal trend for bathrooms is customisation as consumers have become more demanding in wanting practical layouts to meet their individual needs. Small handrinse basins through to metre wide ‘his’ and ‘hers’ basins with two taps and large freestanding baths through to compact built-in tubs; the trend has led to a broader choice than ever before in sizes, designs and installation options.
