Make extraction an early consideration in kitchen design
Comment by ANN PHILLIPS, Sales and Marketing Manager, Westin Design
Published:  10 June, 2011

Ann Phillips, sales and marketing manager of kitchen extraction specialists Westin Design stresses the importance of thinking about extraction early on in the design of a new kitchen.

Like waste disposal, extraction is not considered and the only time people think about extraction is when it doesn’t work!  By simply thinking about it earlier on and building in the technical fit as well as the look of your extraction hood, kitchens can be odour free.

Kitchen extraction needs to be one of the early considerations in the design and fit.  For Westin Design, extractors are all about performance as well as design.  The ducting is a crucial component but all too often is wrongly installed or neglected and before you know it, Mrs Smith is complaining about the lingering smell of fried bacon!

As well as performance, extraction design can enhance your kitchen.  Make the hood a statement:  a good looking performer, or, incorporate a ceiling hood which discreetly fits flush into the ceiling for use with an island or within an open plan kitchen.

Where a statement hood is required, the options available now means that the hood can truly become part of the broader kitchen design, and if it is given early thought, it will perform superbly as well as adding a stylish element to your kitchen.
