The possibilities of manufacture with steel are virtually endless. It is far easier to create products in a multitude of shapes and sizes in steel that result in a perfect smooth surface, finished in a multitude of ways.
As a sink and tap manufacturer, steel constitutes the majority of our product offering, but our industry uses the material throughout the kitchen and bathroom, which is why the price increases over recent years of raw materials have had such a huge knock on effect in our market.
The last quarter of 2010 saw another hefty increase in steel prices, which will once again create the age old dilemma, do we as manufacturers pass this increase on to our customers or have to suffer the loss of profit?
With the recession over but not yet out of consumer’s psyche, and with news that there will be a spring interest rate hike, do price increases reflect badly on our market place? Unfortunately, the answer is yes, and retailers will be the first to tell us that it will have an inevitable affect on sales.
Despite all of this, however, stainless steel will never fail to be a popular choice. It is incredibly versatile and user-friendly, not to mention easy to clean and with finishing options that are virtually endless it offers a genuinely limitless possibility for the kitchen and bathroom industry.
Consumers will continue to purchase stainless steel products, and of course if they want other options then here at Astracast we offer sinks in composite, ceramic and even wood too – so there’ll always be something else on offer while the prices continue to soar!
