Pure or Contrast and sleek, handle-less lines are the key looks for 2011

As the year gets off to a positive start for those of us exhibiting at the Living Kitchen in Cologne last month, there are a couple of key looks that are emerging for door frontals in 2011.

White continues to be the pre-eminent colour as the basis for a contemporary kitchen look with its versatility for delivering top end style being expressed in two ways. The first I would describe as Pure Design, signalled by the all-white handle-less kitchen. As manufacturers and retailers have all recognised over the years, white is the colour that never goes out of fashion based on its ability to reinvent itself to remain at the cutting edge of high design.

The current colour trend is for fresh, bright whites more on the blue spectrum as opposed to creamier, softer whites and matt texture is also coming through to counter the long reign of high gloss. The second look centres on Contrast, the combinations of white with dark woodgrains or organic hues. Here again the ‘super’ white wins through as it provides a sharper, more cutting-edge contrast to the tone-in-tone harmony that has gone before. Central to both these looks is the handle-less door style which was much in evidence in Cologne, further underlining its importance as a mainline door frontal.
