Tapping into the trend for boiling and chilled filter water on demand
Comment by DAVID BRADBROOK Marketing Director, Zip Heaters UK
Published:  18 January, 2011

The use of counter mounted taps to provide instant boiling and chilled filtered water can save both time and energy whilst eliminating the need to buy expensive bottled water, says David Bradbrook, Marketing Director of Zip Heaters UK.

“With Britons drinking an estimated 229 million cups of tea and coffee every day at work and in the home, the potential for time, energy and cost savings are tremendous. Traditionally, kettles have done an adequate job of providing boiling water for domestic consumption. However, in an increasingly environmentally conscious climate, many homeowners are now becoming more aware of the energy costs attached to their household appliances.

“To put this in perspective, the Department of the Environment estimates that by overfilling kettles the average user can waste enough energy in a week to light a house for a day or run a television for 26 hours.

With so much energy being wasted through miss-use of kettles, it’s good to know that alternative solutions are available.

“The emergence of a new generation of appliances, which deliver instant boiling and chilled filtered water through dedicated sink or counter mounted taps, is quietly revolutionising drinks provision. In addition to the efficiency aspect, such systems help save time by eliminating the need to wait for a kettle to boil. And, from a design perspective, an instant boiling water appliance mounted on a font can be an attractive addition to any kitchen.

“Many users also require instant boiling water along with filtered drinking water. The filtered drinking water usually replaces bottled water - used today in so many households with the resultant issues of cost, storage, disposal and unacceptable carbon footprint. With bottled water typically costing over 30p per litre a family can spend significant amounts of money annually to consume their recommended daily intake even before other environmental issues are considered”.
