With the focus on sustainability, specifiers and installers need to know which products will help them to achieve the environmental targets for new and refurbished buildings. Johnson Tiles have introduced several products recently which are sustainable and which contain up to 40% recycled content within the tile body.
The Elegance range of large format tiles are digital inkjet decorated and replicate natural marbles and stones. In addition to the 25% recycled fired waste content, the new digital process reduces environmental impact because it cuts the number of glazes needed from over 200 for traditional systems to the four process colours.
In the premier Absolute range of tiles a new tile called Zanonce contains 40% recycled glass obtained from old television screens. In the other Absolute ranges the 40% recycled content is mainly manufacturing material waste.
Johnson Tiles have been involved with the recycling of fired ceramic waste for nearly 20 years and today all tiles produced in Stoke on Trent contain a minimum of 25% fired waste which is obtained from 15 local pottery manufacturers and reprocessed by the company. Johnson Tiles green credentials set benchmarks for the industry and have seen them achieve listing in The Sunday Times Best Green Companies for three consecutive years, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
