Making life easier for those with special needs
Published:  18 November, 2010

Bathing and sanitation is integral to our well-being. It is part of our lives and ensures that our cleanliness and health are maintained. Its only when things go wrong that we realise how much we depend on it.

When major disasters strike at the global level, we quickly become aware of the need for good sanitation, clean water and frequent bathing. Bad sanitation leads to the onset of terrible diseases such as cholera, dysentery and typhoid. When disaster strikes at a personal level then we get to know, first hand, how important it is to our health and dignity.

Around 10% of the UK’s population suffers from varying degrees of disability and the BMA through its members, its website and downloadable factsheets offers information and practical advice to aid in the selection of products suitable for the special needs bathroom.

Many members of the BMA produce specialist bathing equipment which has been designed to make life easier for those with special needs. Indeed some members are specialists in this field. Their latest products are both practical and stylish and many have been assessed and approved by leading healthcare professionals. Designers have created products which we can all use without embarrassment at all stages of our lives.
