With energy prices rising, consumers are now looking for cost-effectivness as well as aesthetics in a radiator design

An increasing focus on sustainability and the consumer’s improving eye for good design are two key factors driving product development for us at Vasco and contributing to successful UK sales which have grown by around 11% in the past 18 months despite difficult market conditions.

New aluminium radiators in particular have captured the imagination as they are made from recycled scrap aluminium and have unbeatable energy saving credentials. Designed in partnership with the University of Stuttgart, Vasco aluminium radiators use a fifth of the water (just 2 litres) required by conventional steel radiators (which usually take 10 litres) but provide 15% more heat output, offering low energy usage and comfortable heat. They work exceptionally well with solar panels and ground source heat pumps as less energy is required to heat the reduced volume of water and the boosted heat output allows users to turn down their thermostats to further save energy.

Aluminium is a designers’ dream as it is more malleable than steel so is allowing the creation of ambitious and sculptural designs. Bryce, for example, with its softly rippled surface could only be achieved in aluminium. It is also a lighter than steel so the radiators can be handled and fitted by one person. Yet another advantage of this revolutionary material.
