Could your project represent the smartest use of tiling in a private home?
Published:  08 October, 2010

We are looking for the most innovative domestic tiling project. At the 2010 Awards BKU Update sponsored the award for Best use of tile in a domestic environment and the winner was a private house in Mapperley near Nottingham supplied by East Midlands Ceramics.

This year we have precluded housing developers from the awards as they have their own. The 2011 award will be for the Best use of tile in a private house.

The use of tile in a private home can make the difference between an average and an aspirational space. This award recognises the impact that a well-designed tiling project can have. Could your project win this award?

Ceramic tiles at the heart of this grand design

Renovating your dream home is always an exciting challenge – and it is also a great opportunity to use ceramic tiles as the heart of your grand design.

The proud owners of this superb five bedroom luxury home in Mapperley, Nottingham used beautiful ceramic tiles throughout to create a wonderfully elegant interior in the living areas – as well as the kitchen and bathrooms.

The spacious entrance hall makes a wonderfully welcoming statement, thanks to the generous use of luxurious designer floor tiles from Versace.

The region’s leading ceramic tile supplier East Midlands Ceramics is the exclusive agent for Versace and specialises in giving customers unrivalled, expert advice on a wide variety of top quality products from leading manufacturers. All the ceramic tiles for the renovation were supplied by EMC Tiles and delivered directly to the site.

The stunning hallway with its attractive central staircase glows with the opulent glitter of the hard wearing, full-bodied porcelain tiles. A downstairs bathroom and toilet is tiled with eye-catching black granite with stainless steel mosaics.

This impressive hallway leads to a wonderfully appointed kitchen with a contrasting but highly complementary slate grey, textured tile in glazed porcelain. The theme is continued with the same tile in the adjoining garden room - a comfortable family area bathed in natural light. The overall effect of the entire ground floor is one of style and harmony. Luxurious under-tile heating provides controllable warmth all year round.

Upstairs, en suite bathrooms are exquisitely finished in a variety of styles including bronze glazed porcelain. The combination of coloured and plain tiles shows off the fittings to stunning effect.

The delighted owner observes: “We wouldn’t use anyone else but EMC Tiles. Our family has always bought from them so they were the obvious choice. You get the very best advice, customer service and prices. The range of tiles they are able to supply is unbeatable.

“They recommended a tile fixer who we believe is the best in the business. The finished result looks fantastic. It is part of a total renovation of the property which gave us the opportunity to use ceramic tiles extensively.”
