THE TILE ASSOCIATION COLUMN
It’s only natural
Published:  31 July, 2010

In the wall and floor tile industry natural stone is one of the fastest growing markets. For The Tile Association Awards 2010 an unprecedented number of nominations were received in this category. There are specialist retailers of natural stone, marble, granite, limestone and slate but in today’s market every TTA member distributor and retailer offers a sizeable and varied range.

Natural stone brings a room to life; it can add drama, soften or just add surprising highlights of colour and variation. It looks perfect on kitchen floors in both classic and contemporary settings. It can add a hint of colour to a stark minimalist theme, classic beauty to an imposing grand design or the finishing touch to a rustic theme. Natural stone with all its wonderful variety looks incredible on bathroom walls as well as floors.

This beauty comes at a price. These products vary enormously in wearability. Some are extremely hard and others quite soft; some may need sealing and they can vary a great deal in thickness. Most will need care throughout their design life but in a domestic situation they will last a lifetime. There are specialist products to seal, clean and protect natural tiles and your TTA Member will be able to advise on these and on the suitability of particular natural products your bathroom or kitchen scheme.

Don’t miss out on this growth market. Talk to your nearest TTA member supplier about including some product on display in your showroom. For clients who are concerned about the care these beautiful products need there are plenty of natural stone and slate lookalikes in durable and almost maintenance free porcelain. Some are so good you can hardly tell the difference.
