Bespoke Service – Many say it but how many brands actually offer it and to what extent?
Britain’s market leading, in-frame kitchen manufacturer explains what the word ‘bespoke’ means to them and their customers.
Generally speaking, the word ‘bespoke’ means a high degree of customisation and involvement of the customer in the production of the end product. However, it’s what the manufacturer considers to be ‘a high degree of customisation and involvement’ that creates the air of scepticism whenever you see the word used. In its simplest form, bespoke could mean a choice of colours and handles and let’s face it, even kitchen brands at the lower end of the market offer their customers this level of choice!
However, at the very top end of the market place customer expectations of brands, particularly some of the more exclusive in-frame brands, using the ‘bespoke’ term, are a lot higher but quite often, the perceptions created by the marketing for these particular brands, in terms of the extent of their service, prove to be just that..... mere perceptions. What you get is very nice ‘off the peg furniture’ with what amounts to no more than choice of finishes and accessories, as offered by many of the lower market brands; despite the huge sums of money involved!
The key difference with Edwin Loxley’s in-frame kitchen furniture is that the word ‘bespoke’ actually applies to the manufacturing process and not just the accessories and finishing touches. This allows their dealers customers’ untold levels of customisation and involvement. Joe Cavani, Edwin Loxley’s Founder and Managing Director comments “We don’t have product ranges; we produce commissions, working closely with our dealers to give their customers furniture that fulfils their exact tastes and requirements. We are completely dealer lead and that, along with offering an unrivalled specification at prices that re-write the rule book, are the key differences between us and our perceived competition.”
A look through Loxley’s recently published book of designs and indeed the published, magazine case studies as featured on their website (www.edwinloxley.co.uk) makes you immediately aware that you are dealing with in-frame furniture on a totally different level. You will see extraordinary designs that have been produced to meet specific architectural styles, dimensions and of course, the customers personal tastes and requirements. It’s also the attention to details that make the furniture such a delight to own and use; such details that other high end brands, with their more mass produced approach simply couldn’t entertain. Electronic islands incorporating under storage in the form of ‘lazy susan’s’ under and central locking on cupboards and drawers are just two clever concepts; not to mention beautiful sweeping curves and almost any natural timber or paint finish you can imagine. “I’ve no doubt that it’s our manufacturing flexibility and continual striving to improve our quality and service that has enabled us (Edwin Loxley) to not only survive, but prosper during the last 18 months when we have seen many other brands falter or disappear of the radar.”
