One of the biggest challenges facing KBB manufacturers is the constant need to provide their retailers with up to date information regarding their products. This is normally with reference to price changes, products becoming obsolete and new ranges introduced. Traditionally, this has been conveyed through the medium of a catalogue! However, the financial cost for this exercise is astronomical, is very inefficient and the environmental impact is verging on the criminal.
Unlike most other industries, Information Technology has been slow on the uptake within the KBB sector yet provides the solution for addressing this issue. True, CAD and Business Management systems have been embraced over the last few years and these go part of the way, but they are desk top applications which impact the retailer with the need for high specification hardware, connectivity issues and very little decrease in paper trails.
E-commerce is changing the way we do business; likewise, the Internet can provide the KBB Industry with the means whereby product data can be made universally available, instantly and economically updated with significant reductions in carbon footprints! Web based IT systems are the future with Manufacturers, retailers and the environment all benefitting with lower costs, greater efficiency and far more eco- friendly.
