Utopia has appointed two well-known industry designers, Phil Allen and Bob Westmoreland, to focus on new product development. Phil and Bob, who have many years’ experiences in the bathroom industry, will act as Design Consultants specialising in different but complementary areas.
The appointments mark the start of a new phase for Utopia following the completion of the management buyout. With a new management team on board, the company, which is the UK brand leader in bathroom furniture, will now be pursuing a proactive expansion programme through product diversification.
Having worked together for the past 10 years at Jacuzzi, Phil and Bob have great synergy despite acknowledging their very different approaches. Phil, a graduate in art and design and also industrial ceramics, welcomes his new role at Utopia as an opportunity to get back to ‘handson’ design in the field of sanitaryware.
Whilst acknowledging the creative spark that leads on to great design, both men are also extremely realistic about the role of the designer.
