Investigating renewal and sustainability

“Water is becoming a scarce resource and we need to nurture and respect it. Our industry as a whole needs to make a commitment to protect the environment both in terms of manufacturing processes and the amount of water our products use.

It is in everyone’s best interest for factories to find ways to minimize their carbon footprint and to adopt a proactive recycling policy, to optimize the use of materials.

We need to provide the consumer with products that provide a great experience and work efficiently, but on the other hand we have a moral obligation not to promote wastage. It is therefore the responsibility of the designer to develop products that make the best use of every drop of water. Taps and showers with eco-stops, flow limiters and WCs with dual flush options offer positive alternatives, giving the consumer the means to use less water.

Making products that last is another way to minimise our impact on the environment alongside common sense concepts such as efficient shower thermostats to enable the selected temperature to be reached as quickly as possible, ensuring water isn’t being wasted unnecessarily.

It is imperative that ‘the environmental impact’ is a key consideration in the product development process, if we are to protect our fragile environment and deliver a great water experience to our consumers with peace of mind.
