Hotpoint and Indesit consider a more energy efficient approach
Published:  01 October, 2007

Energy efficiency is now a major consideration when it comes to choosing kitchen appliances. More and more consumers are now attracted to appliances that save on energy consumption, both for environment concerns and cost-effectiveness.

In the case of washing machines, energy efficiency is particularly important, with more focus being placed on the actual units of energy or quantity of water used. Consumers are now more conscious of the varying costs in utility bills and some products are now A+ energy rated such as the Hotpoint Aqualtis and the Indesit Moon.

Indesit Company has always and continues to produce energy efficient products to benefit the consumer and the environment. With the introduction of the Aqualtis came a new Eco function that gave the consumer feedback on the most economic programme to use.

The Hotpoint Aqualtis also offers a mini load cycle that washes small loads with a water saving of up to 25%, and up to 40% saved on energy compared to a full load. The machine is also one of the quietest washing machines on the market, with a Super Silent Wash cycle. It takes a large 8kg load, 60% bigger capacity than a standard 5kg load machine, yet still fits into a standard kitchen gap. The large load size has resulted in the creation of specialist programmes such as a Duvet Cycle, so you can wash a double duvet, and a Bed and Bath Cycle, which wash a double bed set, two single bed sets plus four towels in less than two hours.

Indesit Company has a dedicated training team that ensures retailers and store staff are fully briefed, in order to educate consumers on the benefits of new energy efficient appliances. Moreover, point-of-sale material can highlight the energy performance rating of the appliance and guide consumers accordingly.

With the top four most commonly used programmes easily accessible via its unique interface, the Indesit Moon is a washing machine that thinks for you, detecting any detergent that remains in the wash and automatically goes to a rinse cycle if needed. The Indesit Moon features the following four programmes:

  1. 60°C wash for white and colourfast cottons
  2. 40°C wash for all colourfast cottons and synthetics, plus reduced creases making ironing fast and easy
  3. 30°C wash for all delicates, wool and silk items
  4. 30-minute fast wash for items that need a freshen up or are only slightly dirty (there is also a rinse only function)
Hotpoint’s RF187B Fridge Freezer is rated as A+ for energy efficiency and is recommended by the Energy Savings Trust. It features anti bacterial technology that inhibits the growth of potentially harmful bacteria to help protect the user. Its large 318 litres of capacity across both the fridge and freezer compartments ensures there is food storage space for all the family. Specialist storage isn't a problem either as the product features two useful salad crispers, a meat storage box and a practical wine storage area.

Making kitchens run as efficiently as possible is a driving force behind all product innovation and development at Indesit. Unlike other white good appliances, fridge freezers have to keep running without a respite, so ensuring their energy usage is low is vital.

The Indesit BAAN 10 is 'A+' energy rated and recommended by the Energy Saving Trust. It uses only 230kwh/yr, which is over 45% less energy than an equivalent model from 2002 would use (source MTP). This means that consumers can be reassured they are helping the environment whilst minimising their electricity bills.
