The environment is driving many of the new policies from government, not least the introduction of alternate weekly bin collections. The onus of responsibility is very quickly being shifted away from central and local government towards consumers, but very little support is being provided to help them manage their waste more efficiently.
A recent report from the County Surveyors’ Society (CSS) has highlighted the crucial role food waste disposers can have in reducing the volume of household waste going to landfill, a major contributor of climate change gases. The report cites that food waste disposers are more costeffective than existing kerbside collection routes and have a smaller carbon footprint.
