One of the first new Mira Advance Extra shower and drain pump packages has been installed in a home at the Hawthorn Mill sheltered home scheme operated by Leeds City Council. The package was specified by the City’s Adaptation Agency and installed by In Space Maintain, one of their plumbing contractors.
Paul Hanlon, the Adaptation Surveyor, gave the background: “The Agency works for many organisations in Leeds providing sheltered homes, in both the private and public sectors. An occupational therapist’s assessment tells us what adaptation is required to remove social barriers and we put this into practical effect. For example where clients would have difficulty bathing unsupported, we often provide a shower area with level access.”
At Hawthorn Mill the concrete floor construction ruled out the option of a gravity running drain from the planned level access shower. The Advance Extra with the Whale shower drain pump, however, fitted the bill. “A useful feature is that the unit uses a water flow sensor rather than a conventional flow switch,” added Paul.
