Your smallest room shouldn’t be forgotten when improving

VitrA’s Technical Manager, Darren Paxford, looks at the problems posed by furnishing the new “focus” rooms in the home – the cloakroom and en suite bathroom and points the way to finding solutions.

From afterthought to focal point…the modern home cloakroom and en suite bathroom have become the “go-to” rooms for interior designers in which to lavish clever ideas and turn them into important aspects of the whole lifestyle experience.

Both are normally rooms with confined space in some aspect and for a designer or home owner to succeed in converting these areas into both a very presentable focal point for guests and a pleasurable, sensual extension of the privacy of the bedroom, they have to have access to and the choice of suitable products.

Form and function are the essential elements that must combine in modern bathroom products. Smaller dimensions – depths and projections of basins, WCs, baths and bidets – must not inhibit the performance and function of these sanitary ware products. Likewise, modern furniture must create the desired visual effect while cleverly occupying difficult space areas in order to offer maximum storage and minimal intrusion into the space in which the user needs to move.

Accessories are important – carefully chosen to maximise or amplify light and space. For example, mirrors with integrated back or LED lighting, modern recessed wall and ceiling lights.

For these projects to succeed the choice of supplier should have the full range of products which both integrate and compliment each other in interchangeable situations.
