Adding to its strong health and safety record, in October IDS recorded one million working hours without a single lost time accident (LTA), representing 15 months or 320 working days.
LTAs are classed as any work-related injury that causes an individual to lose 24 hours of work following the day of the accident. They can range from a major incident to the simple stubbing of a toe on a desk.
IDS operates 24 hours a day 6 days a week which includes night trunking to all depots where a number of warehouses work night shifts. The company’s laminate, melamine and worktop products account for 80% of overall sales and present exacting health and safety challenges because they are heavy and bulky and with decorative surfaces that are easily scratched. This presents the potential for operators to be subject to extreme manual handling and ergonomic stresses as they have to combine heavy lifting with delicate placement of product.
