The recent upgrade to the Water Efficient Product Labelling Scheme (WEPLS) has received a warm welcome and rave reviews from all sectors of the bathroom industry. The relaunch, timed to coincide with the Annual Bathroom Conference, is set to be the catalyst to take the industry forward in its development of bathroom products which are both stylish and water efficient.
Newly designed labels, which are similar to the energy labels used on white goods, have been introduced and manufacturers, merchants and retailers are being encouraged to use them in all point of sale material. The labels show, at a glance, the water-efficiency credentials of bathroom products and will be a boon to both householders and professionals alike.
The scheme now has new product categories (greywater recycling units and shower handsets have been added) and the new website is easier to navigate. Around 700 water efficient products are searchable in the web-based lists.
Bathroom stockists and retailers can register their showrooms with the scheme for free so that potential bathroom buyers can easily find their local bathroom specialist.
Matthew Wright, Director of Marketing at the Energy Saving Trust, is a keen supporter of WEPLS describing it as a ‘trusted label’ and Katherine Rathouse, a social researcher who works with DEFRA and Waterwise, describes herself as a ‘big fan’ and thinks that the scheme will go a long way in raising awareness of the need for water efficiency.
Bathroom stockists and showrooms can register now at no cost. More details are available at www.water-efficiencylabel.org.uk or by calling 01782 747123
