Benefits of hydrotherapy more widely known
By LESLEY HOLDSWORTH, Brand Director, Jacuzzi UK

The way we use our bathrooms has changed drastically over the years with a shift from providing basic hygiene to a place of relaxation. Experiencing a good hydro massage from a whirlpool bath or hot tub after a busy week genuinely makes us feel better and as more people frequent health spas and holiday at luxury hotels the benefits of hydrotherapy have become more widely known.

With this awareness has come a desire to be able to carry these experiences into our homes and there are many products available on the market today that enable us to do this. Another consideration is the value these products can add to the home and a huge influence has been magazines and television programmes that have played a role in promoting the benefits of a spa environment and driving a desire for features such as fingertip adjustments and massaging jets.

In addition to adjustable massage jets, multifunction showers and steam cabins the latest introduction of chromotherapy, where a sequence of softly coloured lights combined with hydromassage act as stimulators to help relaxation, is playing an increasing role in the high end of the bathroom market.

Many top end house developers are now reaping the benefits of including hydrotherapy products as a point of differentiation and seeing the bathroom hot on the tail of the kitchen as the showpiece of their homes, whether they put these products in as standard or offer them as a “trade up” for the home buyer!
