Driving forces for appliances

There are four key factors influencing today's appliances market - ecology, economy, technology and evolution. Consumers are increasingly aware of environmental concerns, highlighted further by the economic downturn so appliances with higher energy efficiencies are favoured.

With technology advancing at speed and the modern lifestyle evolving right behind it, appliances are becoming feature-rich with highly desired benefits now beginning to influence the modern consumers' decision to upgrade or replace earlier than perhaps they would have.

Style is a consideration for consumers but a good combination of durability, function and price is key with convenience a high priority, so features including short wash programmes, anti-crease, No Frost and Rapid Heat are popular.

Although the laundry market has declined slightly, consumer interest in green issues, smaller household trends and developments in washing technologies and detergents will drive the market for future growth.

Advances in cooling technology, environmental concerns and the evolving requirements of the modern consumer will continue to drive the cooling market. Larger appliances and Active Air Systems mean fewer supermarket trips.

Built-in ovens and ceramic hobs are becoming the primary choice for many new kitchen installations due to style, affordability and functionality - we are extremely proud of our new Scandium oven - and the dishwashers market will continue to grow at a steady pace as more consumers are persuaded by the benefits of super convenience and savings in time, effort, water and energy.
