TTA publishes Technical Advice Note on Travertine
Published:  06 November, 2009

The Tile Association has published an advisory note on travertine in response to the high volume of the product currently available on the UK market.

Travertine, although often sold as a marble, is technically a limestone and is characterised by the presence of voids within the matrix which can vary hugely, both in the quantity in which they occur and in the form that they take. Traditionally travertine has been used to clad walls and within the marble trade has been considered a difficult material for flooring as the weakness that results from the voids can cause problems.

The TTA document addresses what travertine is, its natural characteristics and its performance in use. It considers the way in which travertine tiles are produced, how that affects the quality and advises on how to establish the varying quality of different grades of travertine. It also advises on both selling the product and fixing it.

This timely and valuable and document is only available to TTA members who can download it from the members' area of the TTA website.

The Tile Association Technical Committee regularly publishes advice notes on issues currently affecting the tiling market and TTA members. This ensures that all TTA members have the very latest technical information and is another compelling reason for companies who operate in the tiling industry to join The Tile Association.

Readers will be able to get advice on selling and fixing travertine from their TTA member tile supplier.
