More choice encourages consumers to break the conventional basin and pedestal arrangement
Comment by SIMON TAYLOR, Marketing Director, Roper Rhodes

The market for bathroom furniture is a growing one, but what further encourages me is the fact that the current market size is still considerably understated, there is so much more out there to pursue.

In the UK most consumers tend still to choose a conventional basin & pedestal arrangement because this is more often what they are replacing. We really are creatures of habit.

The challenge then is to break the habit by offering persuasive alternatives. Sure there are many more choices than there were, but the UK has lagged so far behind in this sector that there needs to be. What is disappointing for the UK consumer is that whilst undoubtedly there are an increasing number of suppliers entering the market, their product portfolios consist largely of variations on the same theme. Inbuilt storage alone offers inherently attractive benefits but it should not have to stop there. The real winners are those manufacturers that meet the challenge of offering beautiful yet practical designs that incorporate the best of latest useful technologies and most importantly do so at reasonable prices.

So, plenty to still get excited about. Not surprisingly then at Roper Rhodes our policy is to follow what should seem a fairly simple philosophy and hope to get it right more often than not. Our young development team think about design all the time & closely follow trends both progressive and retrospective, many of them emerging from other market sectors. We then try to reflect those design elements that we consider most suitable across our furniture portfolio. To do this to a high standard of quality whilst offering good value for money seems to work well for retailer & consumer alike.
