A Eureka moment for composites

After a few years of tinkering around the edges of the market, composite worksurfaces have of late had a Eureka moment. It's been a while in coming but now it's here, composite sales are going to grow massively.

When it comes to granite or solid surfacing, retailers have typically gone down the bespoke artisan fabrication route with outsourced templating and fitting and involving a lead time of anything up to ten days on average. But now composite worksurfaces have turned all that on its head and retailers are beginning to switch onto the many benefits that they can offer, not least a superb margin opportunity.

If aesthetics are top of your list, then composite worksurfaces in solid surfacing and engineered stone are now available in a wide choice of colours and finishes to satisfy traditional and contemporary styles alike. They are precision manufactured ensuring a premium specification, in other words a product that you can be confident in to provide long-lasting quality. Cost-wise they tick all the boxes for affordability, ringing in at roughly half the price of an artisan fabricated alternative while still earning the retailer an attractive margin. With consumers looking ever harder for ‘value for money', composites should be a must-have product in every retailer's armoury because they represent superb added value and opportunities for up-selling. But perhaps the biggest advantage that is driving the potential of composites is that they can be installed by a retailer's own fitters on site. With simple training, fitters can achieve luxurious looks complete with undermounted sinks, upstands and splashbacks. So, if you thought a composite worksurface was a compromise, think again and reap the rewards.
