IDS's carbon footprint is right on track
Published:  14 September, 2009

With seventeen carriages in total, this is the longest freight train to arrive into IDS's railhead at Gilbraith, near Blackburn, and is carrying a 1000 tonnes of decorative panel products from one of its suppliers in Switzerland.

The company estimates that transporting goods by rail in this way has saved the equivalent of 40 articulated lorries travelling from Switzerland to Blackburn by road.

Efficient bulk logistics is all part of IDS's low carbon footprint model for the business. The company has an extensive stockholding of more than 100,000 m2 of panel products at any one time covering MFC, MFMDF and real wood veneered boards as well as plain boards incorporating both soft and hard plywood, chipboard, MDF and HDF in the most popular sizes and thicknesses. The portfolio offers a leading line up of brands including Kronoswiss, Kronospan, Kaindl Austria, Nexfor, Finsa and Unilin. Products are available on a just in time basis across IDS's nationwide distribution network.
