As part of its drive to bring professional tradespeople the best range of business products in the market, FairTrades has teamed up with Simply Business, an online provider of professional business insurance, to offer great value Public Liability Insurance (PLI) and Employer's Liability Compulsory Insurance (ELCI).
ELCI cover is required by law for employees to protect them from injuries and illnesses that are job related. An employer must have ELCI and be insured for at least £5 million. Most insurers automatically provide cover of at least £10 million. And ELCIs must cover all employees in the UK.
When a policy is taken out, the holder will receive a certificate of employers' liability compulsory insurance. This must be displayed where employees can easily read it and keep copies for at least 40 years or risk a fine of up to £1,000. These certificates must be available to health and safety inspectors on request.
