The KBSA has launched a new insurance policy that will allow members to continue to provide 100% cover for all contracts signed since the cover was reduced on 20th May, when the original providers of the ConsumerCare Plus insurance HCCI withdrew from the scheme.
KBSA CEO Graham Ball explains: "The insurance market has changed considerably since the KBSA first negotiated the ConsumerCare Plus deal with HCCI in 2005 and it was unfortunate that they made a commercial decision to withdraw from the consumer warranty market, and to concentrate solely on their core business which is B2B.
The new insurance is administered by QANW Services Ltd, via the broker, McHale Heaney City Ltd and includes warranty backed protection via a ConsumerCare Plus product as well as deposit protection only via ConsumerCare.
KBSA retailers are pleased that the KBSA had been able to provide continuous 100% cover as Ronnie Potts, owner of Leeds-based kitchen and bathroom specialist Norwood Interiors says: " The KBSA are doing a fabulous job. We're in an industry where insurance people are running away fast and the fact that the KBSA was able to get 75% cover after their insurers pulled the plug and then provide a back- dated 100% cover is unbelievable."
Retail member Julian Bayliss of Cotswold Kitchens added: "The warranty backed insurance is very important to us and although the new package offered by the KBSA costs a little more it is still very competitive and makes KBSA membership more than worthwhile, especially when you consider the other benefits and cost saving services offered."
Graham believes that it has never been more important for members to be able to offer customers the security of association membership and says: "The economic crisis and continued closure of high street businesses has raised awareness of consumer protection and KBSA members have experienced unprecedented levels of interest from potential customers about the financial protection that they can offer.
"We are delighted that we are able to continue to offer one of the best deals in the industry for this type of cover as well as a host of other support measures in the form of showroom display material, adverts and local promotional material to ensure our members get this message across."
The premium for the new cover is available in three different price bands and most members will be available to provide cover for contracts up to £37,500 at £24.41. Higher premiums are applicable for greater value contracts up to a maximum of £75,000.
