Natural materials, such as natural stone, have never been so popular. Ian Williams, Managing Director of Cerrig, explains why.
There is something quite wonderful about living in a home with natural materials that in some instances are not hundreds, or even thousands, but millions of years old. Such is the case with granite, slate and marble.
To me it's fascinating that the floors we walk on and the work surfaces in our kitchens and bathrooms have been totally provided by nature (with a little fabrication from Cerrig of course!). However, the beauty of these products goes well beyond their looks. Their natural hard warring and durable qualities, particularly in the case of natural stone, ensures that whatever the application, Mother Nature's products will provide you with many, many decades of service.
For many, and I include myself here, the beauty of these materials is the random patinas and colours that no matter how hard manufacturers of mass produced materials try, simply can not be reproduced or emulated to good effect. Part of the attraction, besides aesthetics and durability, is the knowledge that, to an extent, your granite work top or travertine marble floor can never be replicated in anyone else's home; Nature has provided you with a bespoke product in the true sense of the word!
At present, using natural products, rather than those mass produced, has never been so popular and if it can be obtained from the UK from sustainable sources its not only good for Britain's economy, but also, the environment too.
