A bold statement from Pyram
Published:  17 March, 2009

French manufacturer Pyram make a bold claim for their Bathroom furniture range: "You are unlikely to find a more extensive range of fitted bathroom furniture in terms of variance of style, colour and unusual materials from one single manufacturer anywhere in Europe".

A bold claim and one that upon first scrutiny, could hold true.

Pyram splits it's offer into three. An entry level range of pre-set "washstation" blocks gives way to what they call their main range which "borrows" material and technology from Pyram's core kitchen business. Top this off by a highly unusual selection of upmarket "washstations" using shape and unusual materials as starting points.

It is the latter two of the three that are of interest to readers of BKU so we focus briefly upon examples drawn from there.

New for 2009 is Coprah shown below in high gloss white lacquer with bright chrome minimal handles. Gloss white is nothing new but Pyram go further and offer a palette of 15 gloss lacquer colours some mute, some outrageous. The current trend is towards thinner tops both in bathroom and kitchen. A minimal overhang 14mm matt resin top with an integrated moulded basin is depicted here. The star however is the mirror which, planted onto a plexiglass panel etched with rose petals, lit from the front and rear and with an alternative etch in black lace makes it different and just a little bit kinky!

Walnut is not a material that one immediately thinks of in bathroom but being a major kitchen manufacturer many materials migrate across to bathrooms. The picture shows a quaintly named range "Nantucket" in solid & veneered natural American walnut. The same shape is available in Oak and over 2 dozen lacquered or stained colours. Pyram specialise in unusual materials for tops, here in genuine black slate. Bowl basins are a maybe a little "passé" now so a further 20 choices of basin types are on offer.

Continuing on the wood theme but this time in veneer. At the top end of Pyram's offer is a small range of highly distinctive "washstations" with unusual themes. New in 2009 to the curved theme is a set Pyram call "Ovale". The basin unit mirrors the curve of a specially commissioned oval resin basin. The unit shown here is in wengé. At right flank is a bank of tall units in satin lacquer. We are pleased to learn that colours other than shocking pink are possible!

There is a growing tendancy away from ubiquitous gloss finishes towards satin and the bathroom sector is well placed to exploit this. Pyram boast several satin styles but, shown here on the right, is the simplest in cappuccino, supported however, by one of the most unusual ranges Pyram supply in chocolate vinyl wrap. Vinyl of course is now truly everywhere but not like this. A "wave" pattern is milled into the MDF substrate before the door is wrapped rendering Pyram say a "highly unusual but perfectly practical door front".

Needless to say one could easily lose the will to live before reaching the end of the possible permutations of colour, top and basin on offer.
