Wood is good for kitchen flooring

In recent years there has been a huge swing towards using ceramic flooring in the kitchen, fuelled by wider market acceptance of underfloor heating and also its ability to make a stylish contemporary statement in the home. Laminate flooring too is a very popular choice with the consumer offering an immense range of designs, coupled with the advantages of easy installation and maintenance. Yet solid and engineered wood offer many of these same features and benefits as ceramics and laminate, making them a smart choice for kitchen flooring.

Whether wide board oak, hand distressed, brushed and oiled finishes or exotic woods, timber flooring can create a very fashionable and aesthetically appealing look in the kitchen. Currently its very on trend to combine plain gloss doors with either a contrasting bank of woodgrain units or exotic specie worksurfaces. Introducing a timber floor is another design alternative that can give this luxurious looking aesthetic. Open plan kitchens extending into the living and dining areas are becoming much more mainstream now and so consumers consider the ‘whole-home' interior where the areas blend into one another. The choice of floorcovering has a big impact here and timber flooring can flow seamlessly and beautifully, uniting the interior. It also has a warmer, softer aesthetic compared to rows and rows of large format ceramic tiles.

On a practical everyday level, timber flooring is just as durable and easy maintenance as other floorcoverings. The oiled and lacquered finishes give them a high level of wear resistance. They are also easy to clean, with dry mopping and proprietary products in similar manner to ceramic or laminate. They are also a boon for asthma sufferers as common dust and other such irritants are easily kept at bay..
