The recent and dramatic cut in bank interest rates was well received. Any help towards improving trading conditions is always welcome. But the question remains whether the cut will be enough to kick start new house build and RMI, sectors which are so important to the bathroom industry.

Yvonne Orgill, chief executive of the Bathroom Manufacturers Association (BMA) told Bathroom and Kitchen Update "some commentators are saying that it will be another eighteen months before we see any upturn but others are looking a little more optimistically. If home owners are not moving then they may be thinking about improving their homes with a sparkling new eco-friendly bathroom. If they can add value to their homes now then they will be well placed to sell when the upturn comes."

The bathroom is the perfect room to refurbish to increase the resale value of a property. Modern bathrooms look stunning, are a haven of peace in a busy and troubled world, and more importantly, in today's drive to ‘go green,' are both energy and water efficient.

The choice of products is greater than ever before. Marble, stone and wood products are now sought after and new water saving technologies in taps and fittings, showers, shallow baths, basins and low volume flush WCs are having a major impact.

But where does a consumer start on the road to choosing a new suite. Orgill explains, "the BMA is well established as the ‘Voice of the Industry' and with this in mind recently upgraded its website. Now included is a wealth of new consumer advice. The terminology of the industry is explained in layman's terms and advice is given about what to look out for when choosing a dream bathroom."

The BMA Consumer Advice section is free to all visitors, a great selling tool for retailers, use it with the free downloadable Rate Your Bathroom, to understand your customers needs. The advise pages can be found at www.bathroom-association.org/advice_products.asp and are a major new resource for the modern bathroom buyer.
