Space-saving ideas leave more room to manoeuvre in the modern home

Impulse Bathrooms Gary Hawkins believes space saving bathroom products have now become the norm.

Despite the turn down in house prices this year our homes nevertheless represent the largest capital investment most of us make in our lifetime. To keep house prices down, developers are always on the look out for ideas which allow them to provide the necessary facilities in the smallest workable space.

Typically bathrooms in most houses built since the 1960's have seen the bathroom shrink in size, often as cloakroom and en suites have been added to provide extra facilities.

Today's space saving bathrooms offer lots of ideas. WC's can have slimline or corner systems, short projection WC's are the order of the day. Compact baths and corner shower enclosures are widely available. And washbasin sizes range from luxury to small cloakroom and corner models. Vessel basins and semi-recessed designs can also offer style in a limited space.

The key is to make the most of the available space. Compact bathroom products can help to achieve this goal but it is important to select well designed products such as washbasins which maximise the bowl area, showers which offer enough elbow room to allow comfortable usage, and to be imaginative in bathroom design so the user does not feel restricted.

There's lots to choose from as manufacturers meet the need for space saving products for new housebuild and for those improving their homes with a new en suite or cloakroom or even with washbasins in the bedrooms. The less space the suite requires, the more space is left for comfortable use - and that makes for a happy user.
