Cerrig - Leaving no stone unturned
Published:  10 October, 2008

When was Cerrig Ltd established?

Cerrig (which is Welsh for stone) was established in 2001. Its family owned and managed with Ian Williams (5th generation of the family to be involved in the stone industry) as Managing Director and his father, Glyn Williams, as Director.

Where are Cerrig based?

The head office and factory is based in Pwllheli, North Wales.

The impressive, purpose built premises features the very latest CNC, water jet, stone cutting machinery and stone templating tools. The water used is recycled around the factory and a large amount of their stone is supplied from their locally based quarries.

All the above factors mean that not only is Cerrig's service and quality second to none, but also, they have one of the smallest carbon footprints within the stone industry.

How large is Cerrig's workforce?

Cerrig currently employ a team of 36 stone specialists and administration/order processing staff at their Pwllheli head quarters as well as specialist, commercial, field - business to business agents. All staff are specially trained in their own particular area of expertise.

How do Cerrig operate?

Cerrig control all their operations, both national and international, from their Pwllheli head quarters. Cerrig work through an extensive dealer network of high quality kitchen and bathroom brands right across the UK.

Their service sees them templating and supplying work surfaces, flooring, splash backs, up stands basins and sinks in a wide variety of stone to include granites, marbles, Welsh slates and re-constituted stones.

Do Cerrig specialise in a particular field?

A combination of a state of the art factory, fabricating capacity and industry leading expertise means that Cerrig get involved in all aspects of KBB work.

"You could say that Cerrig's specialist field is handling projects that other suppliers simply can't! Our technology and industry leading expertise, means that we can template with pin point accuracy as well as produce longer and larger runs of stone surface with very few, near invisible joins."

"Its not just work surfaces, splash backs and basins that we get involved with. The versatile nature of our service means that we can produce specially cut stone to line wet rooms, flooring and window sills; their really is no limit to our service."

Growth past and present?

Since 2001, Cerrig have increased their staff from 6 to 36. Turnover has grown from £150 k to £1.7 million for 2007. However, Ian Williams, Managing Director is keen to point out "We would rather experience sustained, steady growth, based on our reputation for first class quality and service. We don't want to win contracts based on price alone. We would expect growth, for this next financial year, to be at least 25%."

Awards?

In 2007, Cerrig won the prestigious ‘Gwynedd Business of the Year & Creative Industry Award'. However, the biggest accolade that Cerrig receive is the nature of the projects that they are awarded from right across the UK and Europe....not bad for a small, family run North Wales company!!
