Italian flavour leaves other countries wanting a taste of its success
Comment by CALLY ELSTON Marketing Manager, Smeg UK Ltd.

Made in Italy'. Three words that are synonymous with style, design and an eye for detail that has secured for Italy a reputation for setting the design agenda across fields as diverse as automotive, clothing, architecture and of course, domestic furnishings and interiors. With a long tradition of leading the world in the spheres of art and design, still Italy has an unmistakable influence how our homes look today. Cally Elston, Marketing Manager of Smeg UK Ltd., reflects on the contribution of Italy to the world of kitchens and bathrooms.

Specific to kitchens, Italian designers have always favoured simple lines and set geometry, and this is the formula that Smeg has applied to its appliances every bit as much as Italian kitchen manufacturers do to cabinetry, enabling total harmony.  It is best exemplified by the company's Linear Series of build-in cooking appliances and one that has positioned Smeg at the cutting edge of design and technology, its Italian pedigree evident in its clean lines and understated aesthetics.  And in a move of supreme endorsement, it is Milan's bi-annual Eurocucina exhibition that has caught the hearts and minds of the international kitchen and bathroom cognoscenti, with even several leading German kitchen manufacturers who were once the backbone of Frankfurt and Cologne fairs now unveiling their latest innovations on Italian soil.

There is much comment and debate in the media about the Far East being the engine room of production and manufacturing in the modern world.  Whilst production may now be a global phenomenon, the innate talent of kitchen and bathroom designers is something that cannot be exported and its home is, and is set to remain, in Italy.
