PWS' Worksurface new factory in Co Durham is rapidly taking shape and is on target to produce granite and composite stone worksurfaces from September.
Fundamental to the whole operation is the slab inspection and storage process. A 6.3tonne overhead gantry crane unloads each slab, which is inspected twice to assure quality. Bar coding ensures traceability and then slabs are automatically loaded onto a photo-station where any defects are marked before being digitised and transferred to the racking system.
The automated saw line is capable of cutting 20m of material per minute and incorporates a secondary saw to cut slots for the re-inforcement rods. Two twin bed CNCS, each weighing 9.5 tonnes are now in place and two edge polishers with 6 edge polishing and champfering positions will guarantee flawless results.
Comments John Lennon, PWS' Sales & Marketing Director, ‘By opting for the most advanced technology available we have achieved a state-of-the-art production facility that will ensure high precision manufacturing to exacting quality standards.'
