A whole spectrum of colours to choose from

Colour. Texture. Exotic. Metallic. Take your pick of any of these words as they sum up what's hot in the kitchen sector right now. In door frontals, the key look continues to centre on flat, plain gloss doors spanning the colour spectrum from black/brown tones through to the ever-popular vanilla and white. They deliver a crisp contemporary look, while offering a neutral canvas for designers to embellish with of the moment materials, textures or accent colours.

A good example is exotic woodgrains. A strongly emerging look is the combination of white furniture with exotic-looking woodgrain doors or worksurfaces such as our new Wenge, Olivewood and Ebony Stripwood. Luxurious and expensive-looking yes, but they also give a softer aesthetic to the sometimes monochrome starkness of an all-white kitchen.

Aside from exotics, popular colours for worksurfaces are black/brown/grey based granites; contemporary neutrals and white. Interestingly their appeal is inextricably linked with empathetic texture development - woodgrains that feel like freshly sanded wood, or natural stones that look like highly polished granite or riven slate for example.

If bold colour is not your thing, then the subtlety of pearlescence adds an interesting and again, luxurious design dimension. From sinks to tiles, it has been successfully used to beautifully enhance neutral colours. Adding pearlescent flecks that shimmer under the light into black and white gloss laminate worksurfaces has taken them to a whole new design level, while also giving the appearance of expensive engineered stone.
