There were 19.8 million people aged 50 and over in the UK in 2002, which represented a 24% increase over four decades, from 16.0 million in 1961. This number is projected to increase by a further 37% by 2031, when there will be close to 27 million people aged 50 and over in the UK.*
We are officially living longer, and this is good news. However, when coupled with the drop in the birth rate, we have an ageing population, which brings with it an increasing need to fulfil demand for products tailored towards the elderly and less-able. There are a number of products out there to assist the elderly and less-able in the bathroom, all designed for maximum safety and comfort while making life a whole lot easier. Design has also moved on - bathrooms equipped for the elderly and less-able are now aesthetically pleasing as well as practical, and can look just as good as a conventional bathroom - with the right planning. Wall hung products are extremely popular as the height can be positioned accordingly and contemporary chrome grab rails ensure practical help is at hand, all with a modern style.
