Bathrooms become an oasis of calm with accessories that appeal to the senses

Gone are the days of bathrooms being designed solely with functionality in mind. As life for most gets more and more chaotic, homeowners are placing an increasing importance on creating a retreat from the world outside. Spending time in a carefully composed bathroom can rejuvenate the body and mind, which has created a trend towards bathrooms becoming a centre of domestic relaxation within the home.

By its very nature a bathroom affects the senses. The warmth of the room and the sensation of water on the skin are only the beginning; the sight is touched by the colours, decorations and shapes; the hearing by the sounds, from showers flowing to cupboards opening and closing; and the sense of touch from the materials things are made of. Realising how every part of a bathroom plays a role in the overall affect that a bathroom has on an individual spending time in it, manufacturers of bathroom accessories are now considering how design affects the senses as an important criteria.

Looking at toilet seats as accessories to the overall appeal on the senses it is obvious to consider the look in terms of shape and colour. Manufacturers such as Pressalit of Denmark have taken this a stage further, combining the Danish design style of clean lines and strong colours with high specification materials offering strength and stability alongside softness of touch. The result is minimalist designs with trustworthy functionality. Loud crashing noises are avoided with the addition of soft close hinges, ensuring that the tranquillity of the bathroom refuge is maintained.

While homeowners have a strong desire to turn bathrooms into places to get away from the world outside, it may be that they are unaware of the full range of options available when it comes to bathroom accessories and the important role that these items play in the overall look and feel of their retreat. It is the role of manufacturers and retailers to ensure that homeowners are well informed and aware of all the resources available to create a place where they can relax.
