A component is just a component

Acomponent is a component - it has no life of its own, it's just part of something bigger. But components are important, even crucial - without components the bigger picture of which they are part doesn't hang together. Indeed, if the component isn't up to the job, the product of which it is part might just fall apart anyway - most of us have experienced that with furniture products in our own homes!

So quality of components is very important indeed as is, in many instances, physical appearance; many components are also decorative. So when buying components there are style, quality and price issues to be considered, the latter varying in accordance with quantity required. And then there is delivery to think about ... when can I reasonably expect to get what I need?

In a fitted kitchen of any size there are thousands of components, just as there are in bedrooms, offices, living rooms and, to a lesser extent, even bathrooms.

It's because of the size and complexity of the procurement problems involved that an industry has developed to take all these problems from the shoulders of busy manufacturers who have many other and better ways to be spending their time. The best of those suppliers of the broad spread of fittings, components and decorative accessories are even prepared put their names to all aspects of quality, service and consistency.

Why would anyone try to find the original source of so many problems?
